First Floor Main Vestibule

Ceiling;

There is a six piece elliptical "ventilated"
        centerpiece in the first rectangle of rib mouldings, yet,
        there are no centerpieces within the remaining two rib
        patterns. It would seem that there should be centerpieces
        within these rib patterns to maintain symmetry through
        the foyer, though there is no evidence of this. There is
        evidence that these areas were replastered at some time,
        thereby covering or destroying any evidence that
        centerpieces were there originally. These centerpieces
        should be replaced to regain architectural symmetry.
        Since all the rooms basically have three styles of
        centerpieces (round - for the parlors and bedrooms, small
        elliptical - for the first vestibule and bay windows
        & large elliptical for areas between rib mouldings),
        it would be safe to say that a round centerpiece should
        go between the large rib patterns in the middle of the
        foyer and a large elliptical centerpiece should go
        between the small rib pattern near the staircase.

Flat ceiling between rib mouldings should be reinforced
        & skimmed.

Rosettes are quite intricate and should be stripped to
        show detail.

Cornice is sound. They should be repointed only.

Architrave;

The architrave over the columns has settled, damaging the
        abacus of the free standing column capitals (caps). The
        Western column cap has the most damage. Upon removing a
        loose piece of the abacus on the South side of the cap a
        rough sawn 2x3 support can be seen inside the column,
        since this architrave also supports the entire two floors
        and the tower above these columns are obviously
        decorative in nature.

Columns are 9 feet 11 inches tall, made of plaster of
        Paris, reinforced with hemp fiber and soaked in linseed
        oil.
