PLASTER REPAIR

1. Equipment :

a. Template Knife

Made from sheets of metal, cut full-scale to required shapes
and then used to screed or form gypsum plaster to desired shapes
and contours. Thickness of brass, aluminum, galvanized or
stainless steel used for the template knife depends upon the
gypsum plaster used or the amount of time that the template will
be stored for future use.

For Hydrocal Cement, .051" brass is recommended. For all
others, 26 gauge galvanized metal or stainless steel.

The metal sheet is prepared for scribing by coating it with
layout dye (obtained from pattern makers supply houses), and let
to dry.

A notch is cut through the original pattern. The metal sheet
is placed into this notch and is scribed with a sharp instrument
by following the contour of the original pattern, including
approximately one inch below and one inch above (for the wall and
ceiling lines).

If the original pattern has been removed, place the sheet
metal against the pattern and scribe, including an inch for the
wall and ceiling lines.

When the knife has been scribed, cut out the unusable areas
and file to remove any roughness or imperfections that might be
transferred to the finished work. To polish the knife, for a
gouge free run, briskly rub a nail over the cutting edge.
